OV7251 – 0.3 MP Monochrome Global Shutter Camera Module:

The OV7251 – 0.3 MP Monochrome Global Shutter Camera Module (B0128) is based on the OV7251 monochrome sensor from OmniVision. The sensor has a 1/7.5″ optical format, which combined with the pixel size of 3.0 µm x 3.0 µm, provides the 0.3 MP 640 x 480 SXGA image. What makes this module unique is the global shutter feature. This records every pixel simultaneously, not sequentially as with most (rolling shutter) sensors; as a result, the OV7251 produces a higher quality image. In addition, this camera uses a 1-lane MIPI interface. In the default mode, the OV7251 sends out a full-resolution image at 100 frames per second (fps) as 10-bit raw data. The OV7251 also provides flexibility for configuring frame size, exposure, gain, and other parameters.

Raspberry Pi Interface:

This camera uses the parallel interface ArduCAM MIPI Adapter Board for USB3.0 Camera Shield and the ArduCAM USB3.0 Camera Shield through its secondary interface (a 30-pin 0.5 mm pitch interface). The board itself is tiny, at around 40 mm x 40 mm. The camera is connected to the BCM2835 processor on the Pi via the CSI bus. The CSI bus is capable of extremely high data rates, and it carries pixel data exclusively. A 15-pin flexible flat cable (FFC) connects the camera to the CSI socket on the Raspberry Pi; additional lengths of the FFC cables are also available.

The camera is supported in the latest version of Raspbian, Raspberry Pi’s preferred operating system.
